This area has been for centuries the rural expansion of Florence, influenced by its history and by the House of Medici who, originally came from here and had many palaces and villas built, among which the Villa of Cafaggiolo where Lorenzo il Magnifico often sought refuge from the political worries of Renaissance Florence.
